Fiat 500 1.2 Cambelt & Full Service: What a Proper Inspection Found

A Fiat 500 1.2 with 56,000 miles came into Car Vitals for a cambelt replacement and full service. What started as routine maintenance quickly highlighted why a proper inspection matters just as much as the work the car was originally booked in for.

The Cambelt and Drive Belt

Once we began the job, the auxiliary drive belt was visibly cracked. More importantly, the timing belt was also showing significant cracking. Mileage alone does not tell the whole story with rubber belts — age and condition matter too, and this one was ready for replacement.

A Serious Tyre Safety Issue

During the full service inspection we also found the offside-front tyre had worn right down to the cord on the inner edge. From the outside this can be easy to miss, but once the wheel was inspected properly the condition was obvious. This was a serious safety issue that needed immediate attention.

Excessive Play in the OSF Ball Joint

The inspection also revealed excessive play in the offside-front ball joint. Wear here can affect steering, handling and tyre wear, so it was another important fault to identify while the vehicle was with us.
